How Docus.ai Is Powering A Groundbreaking AI Powered Health Platform

Following

I recently interviewed the CEO and Co-Founder of Docus.ai, Robert Sargsyan, Ph.D., who is on a mission to improve human health through applying leading edge technologies with just in time medical expertise 7x24. Their story is visionary, inspiring, demonstrated AI Value and has a future that is bold and bright.

The Vision Story

The company’s vision is create a world where every individual has access to the best medical care, powered by cutting-edge technologies and top-tier medical expertise

Fueling their vision is solid research by Johns Hopkins, which claims that medical misdiagnosis ranks as the 3rd leading cause of death, resulting in millions of fatalities each year.

One of the most critical measures of the quality of a country's health care system is how long patients have to wait to access medical care. But the question of which countries have the shortest wait times is complicated by the different ways that countries measure wait time and the differences in the health care systems of various countries. The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) measured wait times in several countries and the results are staggering.

Who can afford to wait in line in medical doctor’s offices, where appointments are often hours behind in ease of access, let alone hospitals emergency centers, whose wait times. Canada has some of the most disappointing statistics as well, as research on Ontario hospitals suggests 90 percent of patients waited up to 12 hours in an emergency room in September 2022, a seventeen percent increase compared to the same month last year. Once the patients were admitted, ninety percent of them waited up to 45 hours to complete their visit, up 40.5 per cent compared to last year.

The impact of securing timely medical advice can save lives, and Docus’s AI Health Assistant, using generative AI in a friendly chatbot experience, combined with ease of access to medical doctors from the USA and Europe to support online /real-time diagnosis with human supervised and validated opinions is creating a business model to transform healthcare outcomes globally.

The inspiration for creating Docus.ai came from the founders’ personal experience when a close friend from Armenia fell seriously ill, and local doctors couldn't diagnose the disease. With the help of a doctor from Germany who collaborated virtually with the attending doctor, they managed to diagnose the illness and develop a treatment plan. This experience sparked the idea of creating a platform that connects people worldwide with top medical experts for second opinions.

Docus already sets itself apart by combining the power of AI with access to over 300 top doctors from the US and 15+ European countries.

The Value Story

Having had a detailed software demonstration, it was clear that the Docus AI Health assistant provides fast and accurate responses to users’ health-related queries and generates individualized health reports about users’ symptoms, probabilities of diseases, and treatment options. Moreover, the platform connects patients with leading specialists to validate AI-generated diagnoses and treatment plans, making Docus the only AI-powered, human-validated AI Health Platform in the market.

During the early trials of the platform, a worried set of parents came to Docus, amid conflicting opinions about their child's treatment strategy. The Docus AI platform was able to connect them to a medical expert specializing in the child's condition. The expert suggested a specific surgery, which, when shared with their local doctor, was agreed upon as the optimal solution. The surgery was successful, and today, their child is healthy. The parents believe Docus's intervention was instrumental in achieving this positive outcome, further validating the vital role Docus’s platform plays in influencing crucial healthcare decisions. Seeing the positive health outcomes of individuals and the joy it brings to them and their loved ones is the greatest source of inspiration for the Docus.ai research and development team.

The Docus.ai health assistant uses generative AI to help users make better-informed health decisions. The Chatbot health assistant leverages AI technologies, such as GPT-4, OpenAI Text Embeddings, and Vector DBs. AI has been fine-tuned using extensive medical data to create a powerful health assistant capable of understanding complex medical information and providing users with actionable insights. This is an important design aspect of the powerful GPT-4 capabilities to ensure health data accurately anonymized health data, identifies accurate patterns, and generates a list of possible diseases with their likelihood and treatment suggestions. Furthermore, the AI platform complies with HIPAA and GDPR requirements for data protection throughout the process in order to ensure user privacy and security.

It is important to note that in the absence of a local doctor's review, AI-generated information serves only as general, educational knowledge and disclaimers are clearly positioned when using the AI Health assistant.

While AI cannot replace doctors in the near future, solutions like Docus AI health assistant have the potential to significantly impact the healthcare field as they are solving a real problem empowering patients with real-time information and being able to easily access a medical doctor to have a conversation and avoid the overload in doctor’s offices, emergency centers, etc.

There is no doubt that the marriage of AI and healthcare will result in significant cost savings. Annually, trillions of dollars are spent on doctor-patient consultations globally. By potentially trimming down consultation costs by 10%, individuals and healthcare providers could save a substantial amount. In addition, by automating the analysis of vast patient health histories and test results, AI can streamline doctors' workflow, ultimately reducing the prolonged waiting periods often experienced by patients seeking appointments.

The Lessons Learned Story

I also asked Robert what were some of his major lessons learned in building out Docus.ai. He shared with me that the role of collaboration and bridging the gap between AI technology and human medical expertise has proven invaluable. AI alone cannot replace the nuances of human medical proficiency, but when combined, it has the potential to revolutionize healthcare. He also stressed that he has learned the importance of accessibility and affordability in healthcare, and that user privacy and data security are vitally important.

For those that follow my leadership exclusive interviews, I also try to seek nuggets from young entrepreneurs on what to advise other entrepreneurs and this is what Robert had to say: “Identify a real, pressing problem and strive to provide the solution people need but may not know how to obtain. Work very hard on it with the right team who shares your drive and vision. Remain unbiased as much as you can. Keep building with maximum passion and success will come.”

The Future Potential Story

By leveraging cutting-edge AI technology and offering access to top medical experts, Docus has the potential to transform the healthcare industry. By addressing the pressing issue of misdiagnosis, improving treatment plans, and prioritizing user privacy, Docus is poised to become an indispensable tool in the global healthcare system. As the platform continues to evolve and refine its offerings, it will undoubtedly improve the quality of care and save lives across the world.

Docus.ai has a bright future as it genuinely cares about bringing affordable healthcare to the global health ecosystem. Current health supply chains are broken and the main goal is to save lives - now we can gain secure knowledge online in the comforts of our homes and also be able to speak to trusted medical doctors. I have no doubt as Docus’ai charts its future vision, they will expand to ensure certified nurses and healthcare professionals can join their marketplace, unlocking new jobs for health professionals and better services for consumers.
